The Town Office hours are changing, effective on Februaury 2 nd 2010. The office hours will be as follows:

6:30-4:00 Tuesday
6:30-6:30 Wednesday
6:30-4:00 Thursday
6:30-4:00 Friday
7:30-12:00
1 st and Last Saturday of the month.

 

Town Office & Administration

 

The Town of Fryeburg, Maine operates under the Town Meeting - Selectmen/Town Manager form of government. The Annual Town Meeting, now held in May, well prior to the June 30 th end of the Town's fiscal year, allows the local citizens to make decisions regarding Town issues and its budget. The Board of Selectmen are the policy making board and appoint and work through the Town Manager who is charged with the day to day operation of the Town.

My responsibilities are as follows

  • Monitor receipt of State and Federal Monies
  • Monitor day to day handling and oversight of all monies collected by the Town
  • Responsible for the preparation of bi-weekly reconciliation of payroll and payables
  • Coordinate the Town's employee payroll and benefit system
  • Monitor all expenditures, including payroll and payables
  • Responsible for daily cash management
  • Collect property taxes, excise taxes etc at counter as necessary
  • Maintain General Ledger, prepare trial balance and financial statements
  • Assist in preparation of Town Budgets
  • Work with Manager and Department Heads to ensure the accuracy of all postings
  • Work with the Town Auditor to make certain the Town is in compliance with all State and Federal reporting requirements and regulations
  • Perform related work as required

As you know, most of the Towns' information is public information. If you would like to come into the Town Office to look at anything that is NOT considered confidential, please feel free to do so at any time during Normal Business Hours. If for some reason, our Normal Hours are not possible for you, please call me to set up a time that is convenient for you. I will try and accommodate you as best I can.

I have provided some of the more commonly used forms that the Town uses for its' employees. This includes the W-4 form and I-9 form that are both required by law prior to any payroll checks being issued. I have also included for our employee's convenience, Time Sheets, Expense/Mileage Reimbursement forms and Stipend Request forms.

For our Vendors that are paid more than $600.00 per year, I have the required W-9 form. This is also required by Law and must be completed prior to any payments being dispersed.

Collects Real and Personal taxes and maintains a list of outstanding taxes and prepares tax liens on the outstanding list.

Waits on counter, answers questions, and gives out information requested on property or excise taxes or motor vehicle registrations. Issues various licenses such as marriage, hunting, fishing, boat registrations and dog licenses, and maintains related records and assists with voter registrations.

Dogs must be licensed by January 31 and a late fee will be charged on February 1 st . The license tags will be available after October 15, 2009.

The cost for a marriage license is $30.00 and you will need identification. If you have previously been married, you will need to show a death certificate or certified copy of a divorce decree.

Inspections and site visits are generally scheduled for afternoons.

The Local Health Officer is responsible for:

  • Assisting in the reporting, prevention, and suppression of diseases and conditions injurious to health. This is comple ted under the direction of the Department of Human Services, Bureau of Health.
Investigating citizen complaints concerning environmental health issues and nuisances which may be dangerous to the health and wellbeing of the citizens of the Town. This work may be completed in conjunction with the Code Enforcement Officer or the Animal Control Officer.

General Assistance

The General Assistance Program is designed to help people in emergencies. People may also be eligible to receive other benefits such as food stamps, veteran's benefits, or Social Security income. To request assistance, please contact Kelley Lavoie at the Town Office. In case of an emergency, applicants may contact the Fryeburg Police Department at 935-3323. You must fill out an application which is accepted and reviewed. There are guidelines that you must meet in order to be eligible for the program. The application is private and confidential. A written decision will be issued by the General Assistance administrator within 24 hours of receiving an application.
