Fryeburg, noted for its fertile plains is located along the
sweeping curves of the Saco
River *. the river provides recreational opportunities for thousands
of visitors each year. Fryeburg's largest body of water is Kezar Pond
(1,299 acres) followed by Lovewell Pond (1,120 acres) with twelve other
great ponds gracing the Fryeburg landscape. A town beach is maintained
on the Saco River. Canoe rentals and campsites are available in several
places. There are many sites along the Saco that offer public access to
the river during its 70 mile journey through our town.
Fryeburg
maintains 12 public parks for the enjoyment of residents and visitors
alike. Our parks have simple guidelines:

2. Carry out what you carry in
3. Take only pictures. Leave only footprint.

- Eastman Grove-
Portland and Oxford Streets
Activities: Passive recreation including nature watching and walking.
- Peary Park-
Main street in village
Activities: Historic Site, passive recreation such as views of mountain
scenery, nature watching, correcting compasses, and sports activities
in open spaces.
Named in honor of Admiral Robert E. Peary
- Battle Ground
Monument Location-
S. side Old County Rd.
Activities: Passive recreation such as bird watching, open area for
sports, and summer music events.
- Canal Bridge
Campground Location-
West side Rt. 5
Activities: Free Swimming and canoe launch: Reservation and fee required
for camping at site.

- Newman Skillings
Park-Old Mill Road on Island Road.(No Parking)
Activities: Historic mill site, camping and nature watching.
- Graustein Park-
S. side Fairview Dr. on Rt 5.
Activities: Tennis, Basketball, playground, open space for sports activities,
& tables for picnics
- Frye Homestead-
W. side Rt. 5
Activities: Passive recreation such as bird watching, open area for
sports, and summer music events.
- Town Forest-
W. side Rt. 5
Activities: Walking Hiking, and nature watching.
- Bog Pond Landing-
N. side of Bog Pond Rd.
Activities: Closed in winter to vehicular traffic, but open to snowmobiles
and nordic skiing. Fishing and nature watching.

The Saco River Recreational Council, a non-profit organization
made up of canoeists, landowners, local residents, canoe liveries, the
Appalachian Mountain Club, and the states of Maine and New Hampshire has
a mission of protecting the river and educating the people who use it.
The council employs river runners who can aid and rescue people along
the river. |
