Fryeburg Historical Society

The Fryeburg Historical Society will be having its August meeting, Tuesday, August 3rd @ 7:00 p.m. @ the American Legion Building on Bradley Street in Fryeburg.  Following this month's meeting will be a program conducted by Marc Stowbridge , Chair of the "Public Observing" committee of the New Hampshire Astronomical Society.  The NHAS provides free sky watches and talks regarding astronomy for any interested groups.  Part of their support for science literacy is the "Library Telescope Project", that helps to place good quality telescopes in town libraries, where they can be checked out like a book.

This introductory talk will focus, as it were, on what's up in the night sky , and how to find it.  I will bring along some telescopes, and if the sky is clear we can go out and take a look.  If anyone has a dusty telescope they don't know how to use, please bring it along and if we have time, we can get it up and running.

There will be refreshments following the program.  All our meetings and programs are open to the public.

Fryeburg Public Library Alzheimer's Support Group

Fryeburg Public Library at 515 Main Street will offer an Alzheimer's Support Group. This informal group will meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the Weston Room. If you are the primary caregiver for a loved one living with dementia, you are encouraged to attend. The group will discuss coping skills, activities, understanding difficult behaviors and much more. It is important to note that anything discussed within the group will be strictly confidential. For more information please call Robin at (207) 935-2731.

Storytimes at the Fryeburg Public Library

"Book Time with Your Baby" is offered every Wednesday at 10am. This program is for children birth to 36 months. Storytime lasts for 20 minutes and offers simple stories, songs, and fingerplays for infants and toddlers with their parents.

"Storytime for Preschoolers" will follow at 10:30am for children aged 3-5. This program runs for 30 minutes and includes stories, sing-a-longs, puppetry and more. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children, but may treat this as a first independent activity for their children.

Both programs will be ongoing throughout the spring and summer. Sharing reading time with your child stimulates brain development in infants and toddlers, helps prepare preschoolers for reading, creates excitement about learning, encourages imagination and is both free and fun.

Monthly Book Discussion Group

The library book discussion group meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 10am. Book choices are available at the library. FMI or to reserve this month's book call (207) 935-2731.

The library writer's group meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 8am . Beginning and experienced writers are welcome to attend. For details call (207) 935-2731.

The Fryeburg Public Library Circle of Friends knitting group will not meet during the summer months. The group will resume in the fall.
