Town of Fryeburg
Board of Selectmen Meeting Minutes
March 1, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 6pm.

Review and approval of the minutes of 2/1/07 and 2/15/07

David Knapp moved to approve the minutes of 2/1/07 as printed. Jim Dutton seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Ed Wilkey moved to accept the minutes of 2/15/07. Jim Dutton seconded and all were in favor.

Emergency Shelter Generator Installation Update.

The generator is on site and ready for electrical hookup. It was discovered that it takes approximately 4,000 gallons of propane to run at full capacity. The school board requested a letter from the fire chief and police chief to verify that the proposed placement of the propane tanks is acceptable. If the proposed location is unacceptable, the tanks would have to be moved across the service road and would incur additional expense. This work could all be completed by April during the spring break.

Snow Removal Issues – Portland, Street.

The snow along the Masonic Hall and Rita’s Beauty Shop is from the state, the town, and Clyde Watson who does the plowing for them both establishments. It was determined by the Selectmen to have Clyde push the snow towards Car Quest. If the state doesn’t get to it in a timely manner then the town will remove it. Rita’s Beauty Shop is responsible for her own plowing and is not to push snow into the street or towards her abutters.

Library Card Catalog Disposition

The Fryeburg Library is now going to go to a digital card file. The old card catalog will have to be disposed of. It was agreed to put the card catalog in the paper or Uncle Henry’s and take sealed bids on it. It was looked at by an antiques dealer who saw no special historical value to it.

Update on single stream recycling.

Donnie Davidson did some research after attending a tour on single stream recycling.

The figures show that single stream recycling would not be in the best interest for this town in some aspects at present. As time goes on Donnie will still continue to monitor expenses and timely advantages for using this system in the future. To make this an efficient working process, Donnie feels that the town would have to have a town ordinance to make everyone recycle.

Beano Application – Good Sam Club– September 2007 event at Fryeburg Fairgrounds.

David Knapp moved to accept the application for Beano for the Good Sam Club on September 7, 2007. Ed Wilkey seconded it and all unanimously approved it

Other Business

The Oxford Municipal Association had a meeting regarding police consolidation. They are suggesting giving our police department to the county area. If this was mandated the cost for the police giving service to towns would be less.

March 8 th is the next workshop meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 7:45 pm.

Respectfully Submitted:
