BOARD OF SELECTMEN
February 6, 2003

ATTENDEES: Diane Gushee, Allan Trumbull, June Irvine (Harry True absent)

Sue Belmer introduced her daughter Kaylee who read a letter she had written concerning a recent sledding accident on Pine Hill at Bradley Park. They are concerned that others may be hurt sledding on the hill and wonder what can be done to prevent further occurrences. Many suggestions were made such as putting an article in the newspapers at the start of the winter season. June will contact the Bradley Park committee before the next meeting.

The BOS discussed the discontinuance of a section of Rte 5 which was the site of the old Canal Bridge. Dr. Rob Rose was present as an abutter and the initiator of the request. There was a disagreement among the 2 board members present as to whether discontinuance should take place. The issue was tabled for the next meeting.

June told the BOS that the Town would need to spend approximately $3000 on a site and storm-water plan for the new Town Garage. The Board approved this expenditure (2-0)

The Board discussed Emily Fletcher’s request to take money from the Library interest to remodel the Library’s kitchen. The Board instructed June to inform Emily to wait until the auditor’s report was in indicating what funds were available and until after Town meeting.

Allan proposed that the Public Safety/Police Task force issue be tabled until after Town Meeting.

The Board approved the Parks Committee’s request to put an article on the warrant regarding the Canal Bridge Camping Area lease.

The Board instructed June that they did not feel it was necessary for her to attend an Oxford County Commissioner’s meeting on February 18th regarding the possibility of the County providing police services to the Town.

The minutes were approved.

It was moved to go into Executive Session to discuss applications for the Transfer Station position. When the Board came out of Executive Session it advised June and Don to use their best judgment in putting someone on temporarily. Final hiring will be done when Don returns from his wrist surgery.

Respectfully Submitted,

June Irvine
Administrative Assistant
