BOARD OF SELECTMEN
2 Public Hearings were held, one for a new malt liquor license application for Long River Restaurant and another for a full liquor license renewal for Saco Valley Sports Center. There was no public comment on either. The Board of Selectmen signed both applications. The bids for the 16 x 16 building at the Transfer Station were opened. Richard Barton $6,500 The bid was awarded to Richard Barton One bid for 2002 paving contract was opened. F.R. Carroll was awarded the paving contract for $36.45/ton; handwork $100/ton. Robin Johnson asked if signs can be put up to protect Hemlock Bridge. June will check into this and see who is responsible to put them up. June read a letter from the Bradley Park Committee asking that no vehicles be allowed in the park except for deliveries. Robin said they would be cording the park off from parking at this weekend's craft fair. Allan suggested that Peary Park would be a more appropriate place for events to be held. Wayne Brooking presented a policy for the use of the new air boat to the BOS. They approved it (2-0). A letter to the postmaster certifying the E911 addresses was signed by the BOS. Gay Kiesman was appointed Assistant Fire Chief; Derrick Mack was appointed as a full-time police officer. The Board approved selling tax acquired property Map 53, Lot 87 to Henry Scully for $2600, the original purchaser having defaulted. Mr. Scully's bid was the second highest; there was another bid for $2,550. The Board of Selectmen approved June's attending the New England Management Institute on August 28th-30th. Diane announced that the BOS had taken a ride with Gary to look at the roads. Harry said he recommends that brush be cut back along side the road when it is small. He wants to follow this up with more discussions with the Road Commissioner. Allan agreed that there should be regular brush control. The warrant was signed, the minutes were approved.
